News Report from Fife Today
Gathering DataI wanted to speak to small business owners all over Scotland in order to explore their current information security practices, their perceptions of the threat levels, and their resilience to data loss or cyber attack. I interviewed some over the phone, some in person.
I then built a database to collect details of small businesses across Scotland. My sources were the Small Business Directory, and many Chambers of Commerce publish lists of businesses. I accumulated 18 000 records. I then extracted a random sample of 600 businesses from the database. I validated the address for each of these, but since businesses launch and fail daily, some of my mailed surveys were returned.
I mailed a paper survey to each business, including a self-addressed envelope for them to return the survey to the Scottish Business Resilience Centre.
In February I concluded my data gathering and commenced analysing the data.
DonationsI promised to give a pound to charity for each completed survey. Here are the receipts.
